Storage
Take extra precautionary measures when
storing baby food you made at home to prevent bacteria from forming.
Wash all utensils and pots you plan to use in the dish washer. This
allows the utensils to be washed in super hot water and
steam-cleaned. Wash hands with soap, then use a alcohol-based gel
sanitizer and food handling gloves for extra protection.
The correct way to cool baby food is in a container sitting in a
large bowl of ice water. Stir constantly until the baby food reaches
40 degrees F. When it has met this temperature, fill storage
containers and pop into the fridge or freezer immediately.
The easiest way to store fresh homemade
baby food is in the freezer with sealable ice cube trays. We
recommend ice cube trays with lids because it keeps food fresher and
better prevents unwanted freezer burn. Each cube holds about 1 ounce
of baby food. If your babe likes her food warm and you're on the go,
try out a nifty thermos made especially for storing baby food.
Frozen baby food will last up to 3 weeks in the freezer. We wouldn't
recommend feeding baby food that appears to have freezer burn on it.
Fresh food will last up to 3 days in the fridge.
